Get Your Campervan Winter Ready: Tips for Staying Warm

Discover how to stay warm in your campervan during the winter months and improve your campervan experience

Top tips for keeping warm in your camper this winter:

  1. The first step is to ensure your van in properly insulated. This can make a huge difference. We would suggest starting with sound deadening on large metal panels followed by thin foil insulation. Finish with deep fill insulation that is made from recycled plastic.

2. Diesel heater. Having camped with and without a heater, I highly recommend having one in your van. At the click of a button your van is toasty warm, even on the coldest nights. Avoid cheap knock offs (they do not last) and ensure you use a professional to install your heaters.(Crafty Otter Campers would be happy to assist).

3. Do not under-estimate warm blankets. Make sure you have a few tucked away in your van. Wrap up warm with a coffee and enjoy the view. Added a bath mat/rug to your floor can also make getting out of bed much more pleasant.

4. Will you encounter snow? Exploring the wild? Get your self some off road tyres so you don't get stuck! Double check the size of the tyres when ordering to make sure they fit your van.

A campervan can be used all year around if you are prepared. Some of my best trips have been in the middle of December, when it is peaceful, waking up to those crisp winter mornings.
